More than 80 homes in Plainfield will participate in the FOSH Garage Sale, Sunday, May 19, 9 am to 4 pm, rain or shine. Typically, thousands of shoppers from the tri-state area browse for “treasures.”
Maps pin-pointing locations, with a list of addresses and items for sale on the back, will be available at any home taking part.
Many of the properties are located in some of the City’s historic districts, including Netherwood Heights, VanWyck Brooks, Crescent Avenue, Hillside Avenue, Broadway, and Putnam-Watchung, as well as in the neighborhood dubbed Sleepy Hollow, roughly Madison Avenue at the west to Terrill Road at the east, and south of Seventh Street.
FOSH, a Plainfield non-profit civic group, has organized the sale for more than 20 years. Any surplus raised from application fees goes into community projects like a monetary award to a graduating PHS senior, art classes at du Cret School of the Art for public school students, Leland Avenue Park, and, new this year, signs at City borders honoring the PHS Boys Basketball Team for two consecutive state championships.
To lessen the possible burden from dumping or disposal in the trash, FOSH has arranged for Lupus Foundation trucks to collect unsold items homeowners do not wish to drag back into the basement or garage.
