This is a reposting of a blog entry from Maria’s Blog, posted today, by Maria Pellum. Dear Maria, thanks so much for the mention!
It is that time of the month again: Citywide Block Association Meeting This Next Tuesday
If you have not made your way to the monthly citywide Block Associations’ meeting so far why not take the opportunity to attend it this next Tuesday, October 23rd?
The meeting will be held at the new Plainfield Senior Center, 420 E. Front Center. The time: 6:30 pm.
This month’s guest speaker will be Major Verna LaSalle of the Plainfield Salvation Army .
The Police Department is represented by Lt. Abney. Lt. Abney serves as the moderator and also is the liaison between block associations and the city.
Did you know that if you, like me, have no organized Block Association the city website offers tools to help start one in your block? Your block association can also be registered with the city’s Police Department. You can find information on how to organize and the registration form HERE.
The meeting is a great way to see what is happening around the city; it also is a great way to learn how other people are dealing with issues you thought were unique to your block/neighborhood. Who knows? These meetings might offer a new way to deal with that nuisance that is keeping you up at night. Most importantly, a Block Association, if well managed, could give room to a supportive community to be built around you.
Added on after posting: To take a look at what successful neighborhood associations do for a neighborhood just take a look at the photo album of the Netherwood Heights Neighbors. Their tone, inclusiveness and their ready to help and share information attitude make the Netherwood Heights Neighbors one of the best local examples to follow.
