On June 22, 2016, Netherwood Heights Neighbors lost a member of their community in a tragic kayak accident in Maine. This weekend, family, friends and neighbors came together to celebrate his life.
Michael and his wife, Jennifer, would often hike, year round, weather-permitting. They even had a bucket list to hike a piece of the Appalachian Trail, running from Georgia to Maine, in every state. The pictures that Michael would share on social media were often of hiking boots, tagged with the location and “, America”. It became his thing, and people looked forward to seeing his foot shots, including some from the Inca Trail in Peru hiked earlier in June.
To honor her husband, Jennifer organized a hike in Watchung Reservation on Saturday. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, yet the hike went forward this beautiful morning. This will be an annual event open to everyone in our community, so mark your calendars for next October!
Jennifer wanted to also add a philanthropic element, and asked those participating to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Star Fish Food Pantry in Plainfield. She wishes to thank all who participated and donated in Michael’s memory.
