Frontiers International – Westry Horne Cultural and Heritage Series
The purpose of this series is to educate and provide space for intergenerational dialogues on topics of African American history and culture.
- February 7 – Why Study African American History?– Dr. Akil Khalfani, Director of African Institute Essex County College and William “Bill” Payne, Former State Assemblyman and author of the Amistad Curriculum legislation.
- March 7 – Cultural Expressions – Harriet Tubman with Christine Dixon
- April 25 – The Rise and Fall of the Black Elite – Film “Lessons of Hayti” – with the filmmaker Ed Harris
- May 23 – Malcolm X Revisited with Herb Boyd, journalist and author of Malcolm X Diaries
- June 6 – The Battle for Equal Rights then and now – Junius Williams author – Unfinished Agenda: Urban Politics in the Era of Black Power
This series is free with light refreshments and will be held on Saturdays from 1-4 pm at Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue in Plainfield. Youth and youth oriented organizations are encouraged to participate. Schedule is subject to change. For more information call (908) 868-8704.
